Black Jar Honey Contest

Rules of Entry

  1. To participate, complete an entry form with your name, address, and phone number, and submit it online.
  2. The contest will be conducted on September 24th, 2026. The deadline for online entries is September 22, 2026. All entries are to bring their honey to the PBA monthly meeting on September 24, where your sample will be transferred to a Black Jar. The winner will be announced at the end of the October PBA Monthly Meeting at the SPC.
  3. You must be a Member of the PBA. No purchase necessary. A maximum of two Black Jar entries is welcome per person.
  4. The first-place winner of the Black Jar Honey contest will be entered into the FSBA Black Jar Contest in October. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place showings to be awarded PBA bragging rights.
  5. Bring a sample of honey that you harvested from your hives to the PBA meeting, which will then be transferred into a “black jar” for judging. PBA will supply the black jars.
  6. Each Member present will taste and score each sample.  Each member is to score their top 3 choices. blue chip = three points, red chip = two points, and white chip = one point. (or a similar color scheme)
  7. The Black Jar that acquires the most points will be the winner.  In the event of a tie, the Black Jar that gets the most first-place votes will be the winner.
